Amaranth walked away from the village, her brown, oak wood bow hung over her shoulder, along with her woven quiver.Off to go hunting. It was her calm down time, time to let all things go. A short trail of elven children followed her, asking her many different questions, like where she was going, what she was going to kill. She simply knelt down in front of them, answered their little questions, told them to run along back home, and began walking again. She walked toward the forest, following the well-worn path, taken by everyone as they exited the village of woodland elves. On her other shoulder, she carried her deer skin bag, it's contents being food, and drink, to last her the day away from home. As she walked, her pointed ears were alert to every noise surrounding her. She heard a soft rustling in the brush nearby. The tell-tale signs of some kind of small woodland animal. She pulled her bow off of her shoulder, and strung an arrow. She listened carefully, and then shot. A little scream was audible. Apparently, she had gotten a rabbit, judging by the scream. She walked over to where the sound had come from, and picked up her catch, which was still on the arrow. Poor little thing. She almost felt sorry for it, but hey, she needs to eat, right?

Gretchen sat on a small boulder, beside the dark lake water. She sighed, tracing her reflection with a nimble finger, her elf ears alert. She withdrew her harp, and played it, singing along harmoniously. Even though she was shy, she would sing whenshe thought no one was around. She continued, and closed her eyes.

Amaranth pulled the rabbit off of her arrow, and carried it along with her, untill she came to her hiding tree. This tree was her favorite tree, with a hollow center, in which she stored her catches. It was safe from wildlife, and nobody she knew of knew it was there. she put her rabbit in, and then began walking again. She came to hear the soft strum of a harp, and singing. She followed the noise with keen ears, until shecame upon a girl, who looked to be in her early teens. She saw her pointed ears in the reflection on the lake, and figured she was one of the clan children. She approached the girl. Amaranth smiled softly as she came into the veiw of the reflection. "Hello there." she greeted in a kind voice. "What are you doing out here all alone?" she asked her.

Gretchen looked up to Amaranth, and blushed. She continued to strum the harp, but softer, and stopped singing. "Oh," she smiled shyly, "I-I don't know...I like having the forest surround me," she answered, looking down to the harp nervously.

Amaranth smiled at her. "Yeah, I understand." she replied, sitting down beside her on the boulder, looking down into the reflection of the water. She looked back to the girl. "I'm Amaranth." she introduced herself. "What's your name?" she asked, continuing to speak. She looked out among the trees, and then down to the water, where a little water nymph peaked out at her. She smiled and waved to the creature.

Gretchen smiled at the nymph, and then looked up to Amaranth. "I-I'm Gretchen," she shyly answered. She then strummed the harp some more, feeling at ease. Her nimble fingers wove in and out of the strings, plucking them with a silent grace. She hummed once again, but softer, so she could hear Amaranth speak.

"You play beautifully." she told her, listening to her harp play, and the soft humming. She pulled her feet up and sat cross-legged on the boulder beside the younger elven girl. She brushed a peice of sandy blonde hair behind her ear. "Who taught you to play like that?" she asked her, curiously.

Gretchen blush at the compliment, as she stopped humming. Although, he continued to strum the harp. "Thank you," she said, blowing a price of brown curly hair out of her face, "Nobody taught me...I just...well, learned on my own," she responded, and strummed a different tune, more of a slow, peaceful melody.

Amaranth smiled and nodded. "It takes talent to do that by yourself. You have a gift." she told her. "I can't play an instrument, but I can make things, out of almost anything. Like my bag. It's deer skin." she said. "Speaking of, would you like an apple?" she asked, pulling out one for herself and taking a bite, as she pulled out another one and offered it to her.

She smiles, and giggles, "Thank you, and yes, I would like one," she smiled as she gently took the apple, and bit into it with a satisfying crunch.

She smiles, and giggles, "Thank you, and yes, I would like one," she smiled as she gently took the apple, and bit into it with a satisfying crunch. Gretchen then chewed the piece, before looking at Amaranth once again, awaiting a response with a shy demeanor.

Amaranth smiled. "You're welcome." she said. "How old are you?" she asked curiously. She didn't look to be over fifteen, and she could play the harp very well for her young age. She took another bite of her apple.

Gretchen ate the apple, and looked up to Amaranth, "fourteen," she mumbled, and looked at amaranth like a child. She then glanced down to her harp, all glossy and smooth.

Amaranth nodded. "Wow. I remember when I was fourteen. I was an apprentice to the old amulet maker." she said. "That's how I learned how to craft so many things, from her." she said with a smile. "Do you have an apprenticeship?" she asked.color]

Gretchen nodded at Amaranth's achievements. "I don't have an apprenticeship..." she said, with a sad tone. She was used to her isolation, she hasn't interacted with others since she was three.
